Mac Switches Off Randomly

Dear Forum,

My MacBook Pro is randomly switching off. could be 1 minute, could be 1 hour. No warning. no apps crash, its just switches off.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014),

2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

16gb

Its been doing in for a few months. so far i have:

Tested with disagnostics, issue raised was 'Hard Drive'.

Had machine tested in Apple Store with no hardware issues,

Reformated, reinstalled Big Sur, no issues in store for an hour.

Came home, issues persist.

Reformated and reinstalled at home. Issues persist

im at a lose. machine is a good nick. i could do without buying a new one for an unspecified problem.

is there a way to see in Console, or other, what i could be doing and why its does this?

Any ideas as im losing the will to live...

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.6

Understand, we are all working Remotely from all around the world.

Therefore, we do not have the On-Hands experience the User ( you ) has with this computer.

The next best thing for us to having an actual On-Hand experience  with this computer is to follow the steps below

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor. And Safe to use.

The application is free or paid from added features.

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Thank you for making the Etrecheck Report available 😀

From the Supplied Report, I see nothing to account for this computer behaviour

EtreCheckPro version: 6.6.1 (66021)

Download EtreCheckPro from https://etrecheck.com

Performance: Excellent

Problem: Computer is restarting

Major Issues:

Anything that appears on this list needs immediate attention.

Q - No Time Machine backup - Time Machine backup not found.

A - Anything that cannot be replaced is worth protecting. As it stands now,  this indicates everything is dispensable.

Time Machine Backup  is very useful and can be used to Revert to Previous Working macOS

Minor Issues:

Q - Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed. These files could be old, incompatible, and cause problems. They should be reviewed.

A - Self explanatory and worth considering updating / upgrading or replacing to make more Big Sur Compatible.

Q - Runaway user process - A user process is using a large percentage of your CPU.

A - This could be related to above and or user choices of usage ie Multi Applications running all that the same time. Some of which are not really needed.

Q - Vintage hardware - This computer may be considered vintage.

A - An 8 year old Computer running the last version of macOS it Qualifies to run. Big Sur would perform better on a newer machine as Technology has changed by light-years since 2014.

Had my last post on this removed and not sure why. It breached one of a long list of guidelines which im not sure which i broke...

it was a link to another forum, which has over 22 pages for chat one this subject and talks about a Thunderbolt driver being at fault, causing this issues for 100s of people, across numerous machines and OS versions how when its being used the machine does not crash, and how to remove its installation so it doesnt cause this issue.

Guessing my link to that forum was the breach...?

If the computer is suddenly turning off by any unprovoked User Actions - time to have the machine evaluated Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Visit a Genius at an Apple Store

Normally, a sudden shutdown will provide some type of Error Message or Warning the next time the computer is started up again.

Since that specific information has not occurred - the evaluation is the best option after all the machine is 8 years old. and parts to fail.

i went to Apple last week, tey analysed it, clean bill of healh. As it had that, we formated and clean installed Big Sur [the latest my machine can operate].

Still switches of randomly and ive not installed ay new software yet.

Switches off on Safe Mode.

No error message appears nor is prent upon logging back in.

Iv looked for crash logs ar there are none. Do Kernel Panics create crash logs as i dont see them in the p;laces reccomended nor in Console?

I read that Kernel Panics can be caused by faulty memory. I did a Terminal command to see last crash reasosn and this points at Kernel [Apple SMC]. Could my memory be at fault? I read that its soldiered in. Can it be replaced even by Apple?

im aware this machine is apprching 8 years old and have considered a new one, but it a costly purchase when my machine got a clean bill of health from all diagnostics at Apple
