The ONLY part of my iPhone I back up to iCloud its my CONTACTS. Why then do 176 contacts take up over 4 GB of space in iCloud?

Sorry for being unclear about that.

Did you check the graph on your iPhone, to see what exactly is using the storage space in iCloud?

Check your iCloud storage on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
The bar graph shows your overall storage usage.
Tap Manage Storage for more details.
Below the graph, you see a list of apps and features and how much iCloud storage they use. The apps and features that use the most storage are at the top of the list. You can tap an app or feature for more information.

Yes, I checked, and I have FOUR photos, my CONTACTS, and Find Phone is ON.

Mail - OFF

Contacts - ON

Calendar - NOTHING

Photos - 4 pictures

iCloud Drive - OFF

Notes - OFF

Reminders - OFF

Pages - OFF

Numbers - OFF

Keynote - OFF

Find iPhone - ON

Hello Ingo2711,

THANK YOU. I followed your very clear steps and was able to delete things I did not know were being saved on my iPhone. They are now turned OFF and I am ONLY backing up my CONTACTS. The new back up size in about 730 KB instead of 4 GB. Again THANK YOU so much for your time and help with my issue. I greatly appreciate it.
