Trackpad won't highlight text

My trackpad has randomly stopped highlighting text. I have seen other answers that sugget that this is due to the colours of the highlight actually being visible but I don't think this is the issue as it works fine with a wireless mouse. Any ideas?

Trackpad Click and Drag Issue When I click and drag to highlight text using my trackpad, it does not highlight more than one line at a time. I cannot select an entire paragraph, or page of text, without deleting one line at a time. This issue just arose a few days ago; my trackpad worked before. Is there a solution to this?
