The charging port on my Iphone 11 (1.5 years old) is malfunctioning. I can't charge the phone by just plugging it in, but I can jiggle it and set it an angle to charge. Also, my earpods won't work in that charging port. Any ideas?

iPhone 11, iOS 15

Under a good light and with a magnifier if you have one, use a non-conductive tool such as a wooden toothpick to carefully remove any pocket lint or other debris that may have gotten jammed into the port. Take your time, be gentle. It's absolutely amazing how much stuff can get packed in there. And the result is that the cables won't seat into the port properly.

I took my Iphone 11 to the local Apple Store. The person at the Genius Bar took one look, and said the port just had to be cleaned. They have a special tool that did the cleaning, and the problem was fixed.

They told me that the cleaning could be done at home using bristles from an old toothbrush. i will try that next time. Meanwhile I will be careful to not stuff the phone in my pants pocket where it was picking up lint etc.

I'm so glad you got it fixed.

I used to work for Verizon. We had tools (that I would never recommend to most people) that we used. I use plastic dental picks that have little brushes on them. You can find them at the drugstore.

The suggestion I made to my brother (who makes me clean his charging port whenever he comes to visit) is to make sure you pull your pockets out before you put your pants in the wash. That will help get rid of the lint.
