I would like to search up things like new artists and songs on my mac to get music, but only songs that I've already downloaded on my phone show up so I can't find any new music, and I am unable to find any quick fix buttons or settings that can change it.

In Music Menu try View > All Music.
When keying in the Search field do you not get the options on the right for Apple Music, Your Library and iTunes Store?:
