If use Time Machine with my Seagate SSD, can I still use the drive for regular stuff?

Time machine wants to use my external SSD for backups. However, I use it also to store my multi gig games, and videos. Can I do both, Time Machine warns it will encrypt the drive

When backing up my Mac for the first time, should I encrypt the back up? I purchased a sea gate One touch,which is compatible with my Mac. A message says Time Machine is backing up an encrypted disc to an encrypted disk Backing up my mAc air for first time. Bought a one touch. Time Machine asked me if I wanted to encrypt my backup disc. I said no. Then message said to erase disc for first time to use, which I did. Now a message says : Time Machine is backing up an encrypted disc to an encrypted disc. I’m so confused. Can I proceed to back up my computer?

Un-encrypt/Turn off encryption for Time Machine Backup Encrypting a Time Machine backup is a way to secure your files. It's SO secure, however, that it's even secure from me. File transfer rate is unacceptably slow while encrypted File transfers (including migrations) always fail after a certain amount of time due to the hard drive turning itself off or disconnecting for some reason The end result is that I have data on a drive that is almost inaccessible, or at least, unable to do large file transfers (> 5GB) How do I turn back time and decrypt this drive? Is this even possible in the new world order of the dumbed-down, highly restrictive OS of Ventura? Thank you!

You shouldn't share a drive with Time Machine and other data if for no other reason than when the drive fails, you lose both your backups and your data.
