Magic Mouse zooms/scrolls with no touch?

I have a new Apple Magic Mouse. I'm running Monterey on a new Mac Studio.

In more than a few apps, the "touch" sensitivity (not speed sensitivity) is waaay too sensitive.

In apps that have zoomable maps (life VRBO or AirB&B) the map will zoom in or out even though my finger is only hovering close to the surface, but has not yet made contact. (Heat-sensitive??)

Same thing in spreadsheets like Apache Open Office Calc. I'm about to point/click a cell in Column A, when, weeee!, the **** thing scrolls all the way to the right, to Column ZZ. I have either barely touched/moved the mouse, or hovered my finger close to the surface without actual touch.

How to adjust this? - (which of course, is not about adjusting speed the cursor moves or any swiping adjustments.)
