No audible Mail alerts
Mail for MacOS doesn't play any sounds when sending or receiving emails. Other apps are fine.

Make sure sound is turned on in control centre. Restart your Mac. If still no sound try starting in Safe Mode and test. Then start in normal mode and test: Start up your Mac in safe mode – Apple Support (AU)

I used Activity Monitor to force quit the Core Audio Daemon. That seemed to fix the problem.
Corrupt audio is a common problem with this generation of MBP.
Change new message notifications to inbox only and see if that makes a difference.
No, it did not.
Also when I select different sounds in the "New Message Sound" dropdown menu, I can't hear anything. (I'm pretty sure it's supposed to preview the sound).
Sound is fine. Like I said in my question, it works in every other app.
