iPad, Photos app no trash can icon on pics before Oct 2017

iPad Photos app, opening a picture does not give option to delete ( no trash can icon) on pics before Oct 2017.

New have trash can icon, older do not


How can I delete these one at a time to free up space

No trash icon indicates that the photos were synced to the phone from a computer by using iTunes (or Finder). To delete them you need to sync again. See the "Turn off Finder syncing" section of Sync your photos manually using the Finder - Apple Support

We think we are going to move her to google photos, it seems to be a more predictable user experience. If you want something it's there, if you want it gone...it goes away.


The initial issue on the iPad is drive space and we need easy way to control.


This is akin to an issue with contacts being "corrected" or info changed, such as updating a new phone number... and contacts later reverting back to the old number, as if the edit/change had never happened.
