Touch ID on iPad Air stopped working

The Touch ID on my iPad Air stopped working. I tried adding a new fingerprint, but when I touch the Touch ID button, it doesn’t register the finger. I’ve tried cleaning my finger and the Touch ID button, and I’ve updated to IOS 15.6. Any suggestions?
