Mac mini 2018
macOS Monterey 12.4
I have previously used this Mac as an airplay receiver. But for some reason the option is not showing up in the sharing tab of the preferences pane. It used to be there. It's not there for either admin account on this computer.
Any ideas?

I found this post from October 2021 (as it happens, it was a post of mine, but the content was copied and pasted from the Apple support page for Monterey):
Now clearly this was before 12.3, and it says Mac Mini (2020 or later).
So I can only ascribe it to luck that the 2018 mini worked for a while, but it was never a supported configuration.

I'm 100% sure. The 2018 Mac mini worked as an airplay receiver with OS 12.1 and 12.2, but they blocked/removed that function with the release of OS 12.3.
It's really obnoxious that they'd remove a function which previously was available. The hardware is perfectly capable. It's a deliberate choice by apple to make the computer obsolete.
Try restarting in Safe Mode. Is it there?
Try resetting NVRAM.
If the issue persists, Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.
This is baffling. Looking at apple's list of system requirements, it's clear you're right:

It says Mac mini 2020 or later.
BUT
I'm 100% sure that I used this computer as an airplay receiver before. Zero doubt. Is it possible Apple removed this function with an OS update?

As you found out, yes it was removed. 😎
You're incorrect. The 2018 Mac mini used to have the airplay receiver function enabled, but it was removed or blocked with the release of OS 12.3.
Is this for sure @dialabrain? Im having the same issue on my 2018 mac mini and could not screen mirror/airplay to my mac. Thinking of reinstalling macos monterey but would not like to continue if its not gonna help.
Apple should not remove functions thats was there before just because the device has gotten old.

I reset the NVRAM and it didn't fix the problem.
I booted in safe mode, and still nothing. Rebooted normal, still nothing.
I may have gotten lost. Nothing was removed. The Macs you can AirPlay to are the same. You need a 2020 Mac mini to AirPlay to as noted above.
