when I'm editing an album or a song in the music app the page suddenly disappears, and so does my unsaved edit. Why won't Music stay on the "song" page at the song that I've highlighted and is playing?

Thanks for replying, doflo, and that additional info, it really helps! First, try running First Aid on your hard drive with the built in Disk Utility tool, as this can correct simple issues like you're experiencing.

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log in to your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Some are purchases through iTunes, but most are tracks from my personal CD library.

The ap doesn't close and neither does the window, what happens is that a new location of tunes appears, unrelated to the tune I've selected to play. To get back to the album track list I have to click on "Controls" and " go to current song," then click on "songs" in the strange new playlist screen that appears (unbidden). In iTunes I could search for a song or artist or album, then play a song, and edit the genre, etc from that screen, or just watch the playback track down the song list. It was all so simple. Nothing about the Music app works for me and the way I listen to and edit my own library. I have no idea how to get back to something that was once so easy, so now I rarely listen to music through the ap. And I haven't even mentioned how difficult it is to use the iTunes Store. My library of purchased music is huge. It fills three largest classical iPods. I may have to revert to Windows in order to be able to use the iTunes ap that worked so well for me.
