Studio Displays stop playing sound after 2-5 seconds

I have a Mac Pro (2019) with two Studio Displays. I bought the two Studio Displays as soon as they became available and they have worked well until now. Without warning, the sound began cutting out after 2-5 seconds. If I switch to the speaker on the second Studio Display, the same thing happens. However, when I use the native speaker in the Mac Pro instead of the Studio Display speakers, the sound is played properly.

I updated my OS to macOS Monterey 12.5 after this problem arose, but the update had no effect on the sound problem. I also tried disconnecting the two Studio Displays from the Mac Pro and waiting for about 40 minutes, as has been recommended elsewhere in this forum. When I reconnected them the problem was still there.

My firmware for the two Studio Displays is 15.5, Build 19F77. This was the version before I updated the OS and apparently the OS update had no effect on the firmware since I have the same version now, post update.

Any help to rectify this problem will be much appreciated.

I solved my problem, for now anyway. Previously I tried unplugging the Thunderbolt cords for a while and then reconnecting, but that was not the right solution. Rather, one should unplug the power cords for a short while (leaving the computer power cord plugged in). When you plug the Studio Display cords back in you should see three or four dots on the screen. I then rebooted my computer and everything works fine again.

Exactly the same problem here ... it has been driving me nuts! However, PhilStater suggestion solved the problem with my Mac Studio / Studio Display combination. Thanks so much.

Thanks Phil !!!

As an UPPER LIMB Amputee, this workaround was looking ridiculously impossible if I was going to have to remove the cord from the display - the tech's use a 'wheel' about the size of one's fist to create enough rotational force through leverage to remove the plug.... WHY????.

APPLE clearly needs to address the issue! Perhaps simply by altering the firmware and an icon IN "SYSTEM PREFERENCES", JUST LIKE ANY OTHER APPLE recognised device, to ALLOW the reboot of the monitor.

A VERY simple fix than a guy with 1 arm on the floor under a desk trying to pull out a cable, then plug it back in.

Come on Apple! These things cost more than your iMacs!

You spend a fortune on accessibility software design and yet you missed this!!
