Battery life on the 12 mini is uncharacteristically sub par

I got the iPhone 12 mini about a month ago and I’m really liking the size, however the battery has been quite disappointing. On most days of regular use (only social media, internet surfing and video shows playback) I get about 5 hours of screen on time. This is not great as I have to plug-in quite often. I understand that some mini users are getting around 7 hours of battery life and so I am wondering if I am doing something wrong.

here are some settings I tweaked to try and improve battery life

  1. dark mode always on
  2. location off
  3. brightness always low and auto brightness on
  4. email syncing has been set to manual
  5. prevented most apps from syncing in the background
  6. using 3g instead of 4g

my battery health is at 100%

I understand the mini’s have less battery capacity, but getting around 5 hours of screen on time on a new, expensive Apple device is a bit strange.

Thank you for the advice, but I'm not really able to do that right now (no genius bars near me). May I know on average how much screen on time you get on your 12 mini?

That would be totally useless information. Every iPhone has different apps, and every user uses different apps for different periods of time. And “screen on time” is only one factor in determining battery life. What you are doing in that “screen on time” matters a lot. For example, if you are watching videos or playing animated games your phone will use much more energy than if you are viewing still photos or browsing static web sites.

You can get much more useful information by going to Settings/Battery and seeing which of YOUR apps are using the most energy.

Hello again ~ I charge my iPhone per the info * Lawrence Finch* posted . I use my iPhone pretty heavily …hotspot and maps at same time and never have to recharge my device until night. Perhaps you can find one of Apple’s Authorized service provider’s that is closer. If you have recently updated …try a forced restart. You may also want to make sure you are updated to 15.6.
