Too many password requests.

G’day,

I’ve had this problem on and off and I could always mess around and try to stumble across a fix, but I simply don’t have time any more.

What happens is when I press Update All, each app wants my password. I usually update about 10 at once, and some of them require passwords from family accounts which need TFA to activate. This is obviously a ginormous waste of time and effort.

Settings>My Name>Media and Purchases>Password Settings>Free Downloads>Require Password is OFF, and has been forever.

Settings>App Store>Automatic Downloads>App Updates is ON. I do not notice it doing anything.

I have the exact issue on my iPhone as well. It does not happen on my iPad Pro.

My account is a child account of a family.

I used to be able to sign out and sign back in and it would be fixed, but no dice this time.

When I press update all and press cancel as many times as I can, it never equals the number of apps that are updating. I have 6 apps in the queue but only four requests when pressing CANCEL.

NEW ISSUE: The password is only asked for once and NOTHING HAPPENS after it is entered CORRECTLY. The updates are cancelled. It seems to work if I press on Update individually, not Update All. But the download was cancelled when I pressed Update All and cancel. Interestingly, the menu when I press Update All is different to when I press Update next to an app. One is the classic white box and the other is a newer nearly full-screen menu,

Some of the updates were stopped on my iPad Pro after pressing ‘update all’ for 12 apps. The four were Facebook, Messenger, Messenger Kids and Minecraft.

It now says upcoming automatic updates on my iPad Air after updating from my iPad Pro?

This is a bloody mess and a half.

Side note: I do not get badges for app updates anymore, even though badges are on.

Hello Helpmeplsplsplspls,

If an app asks for the Apple ID info/password of another account, this may indicate that this app was obtained originally by that Apple ID. In those situations you may try uninstalling the app from the device, and then head back to the App Store page for the app in question, and download/purchase it from there. This should link it to your own Apple ID.

For the issue with the app updates not downloading at all, the steps on here may be able to help get that resolved: If you can’t download or update apps on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If possible, also try connecting the device to a different, reliable Wi-Fi network to help rule out any conflicts with the current one.

Cheers.

Are you saying I need to purchase the apps in question and not just redownload it via the family sharing thing? I think the apps were installed before I had made my own Apple ID and put it on my iPad, so I think reinstalling from there would work.

Yes, updates are tied to the Apple ID used to buy them.

This means, if it was downloaded using family sharing, in order to get the update, you need to input the password for the Apple ID used to buy it.

Instead, you should download all free apps using your own Apple ID, instead of using Family Sharing. To fix this, just sign out of the third-party app, delete the app, reinstall it with your Apple ID, and then sing back in using your account info to bring back your info.

Thanks.
