Find My greyed out?!

Hello,

this may be a simple answer but I just wanted to ask. I have a work MacBook air (Monterey) and I am trying to sync up my phone to it with mail, contacts, find my, etc. I went into my system preferences>icloud and the Find My is greyed out, unable to select. I even went in to check my location services to see if it needed to be turned on there first, but that did not change anything. I am asking since this is a company computer, I would like to have to Find My in case of anything.

(Reason I am asking is that my co-workers who also have apple work computers, have it turned on, but I can't get it on mine.) Assistance?

MacBook Air

Hey there MssRaccoon,

To clarify, are there any profiles set up on your Mac? Does your employer have any restrictions set up or is your account the only user profile set up?

We recommend reaching out to your employee IT department so they can check for any profiles or restrictions just in case this is preventing you from using Find My.

Hi MssRaccoon,

If your employer set up your Mac, they might have remotely set some restrictions on your Mac. This could include preventing you from enabling Find My Mac.

Also, personal advice: Don't sign in to your personal Apple ID on your company-owned Mac. If necessary, create a separate Apple ID only for work purposes, if they didn't provide you with one. Keep as much personal data off of that machine as possible. Assume that your company's IT department can and will see everything that you store and do on that Mac.
