Intercom Not Working from HomePod

Hi there,

I saw a few topics here regarding the issue people having with sending intercom messages.

I had this problem too- I couldn’t intercom from my HomePod but it worked from my iPhone to the HomePod.

I even went to an Apple store and was told that this function doesn’t work this way: I can only send messages from iDevices to a HomePod but not vice versa. This is not true, of course.

Anyway, this is what helped me solve the problem:

  1. You cannot send an intercom message from a HomePod to your own device: Siri recognizes your voice and won’t send a message to yourself. Ask a family member instead who is part of the Home to send an intercom message and you should get it on your device. Or you can send an intercom message from the HomePod and a family member will get it instead.
  2. Notifications must be turned on for Home in settings on your iDevice: go to Settings>Notifications >Home>Allow Notifications.

After allowing notifications for Home and asking another family member to send an intercom message through the HomePod I was able finally to get messages on my iPhone. Took me a couple of weeks to figure it out.

Make sure all the other intercom settings in the Home app for HomePod are correct as described in the User Guide.

Hope it helps.
