Got a new MacBook pro 14 yesterday.
I did migration from old MacBook pro.
Now in system information I have a whopping 286 GB taking up space.
Old mac was just a few gb.
How do I remove this ?

You did not tell us the macOS version but update to 12.5 if necessary.
In Disk Utility > View > Show APFS Snapshots and delete them if you so desire although they should be deleted automatically (I wonder why people even look at system data and worry about it when it should be handled by macOS anyway. Very seldom have I managed to almost fill the 1 TB internal disk).

I guess the system should delete snapshots when needed so do not bother unless forced to.
I do not use use Time Machine so I have no 1st hand experience for this workflow (I use Carbon Copy Cloner for backups).
yes both macs have 12.5 on.
will look at disk utility, maybe that's the cause.
