European legislation requires banks to authenticate! Apple ID Payment Options.
More of a statement than a question, although if anyone has a reasonable answer/explanation that would be great.
After installing "Grids" app from the AppStore recently the app required that I provide authentication for the attached payment method (First Direct debit card). The authentication failed with "Your payment method was declined".
There was no reason for the payment method to be declined (lack of funds, etc) and I've been using the same debit card with my Apple ID for some considerable time without issue. In fact, while the app failed to authenticate the payment method, it could still be used for Pay Per View on Apple TV.
I contacted Apple support and was advised to:
1) Add a different payment method (make default payment method)
2) Remove the problematic payment method
3) Add the payment method again (step 2) and then make the default payment method once again.
After removing the problematic payment method, it could not longer be addd again. When adding it as a new payment method, the following message was received:
So I continued to authenticate the payment method. However, rather than receive another prompt to use either the banking app or generate a One Time Passcode (OTP), I immediately received the following error:
The same message originally received when trying to use the Grids app. After several days and MANY calls with both the Apple Support and First Direct bank they are locked in a standoff... firmly wafting their manbags at each other and ASSURING me that they've investigated the issue thoroughly.
If you're having this problem, DON'T bother wasting your time with either Apple or First Direct as neither will be able to (or want to) help you. Absolute joke worthy support from both. So thanks Apple and First Direct, your support is absolutely pathetic and I hope to never have to contact either of you again :)
BTW - If there is a fix for this, I'd be delighted to know what it is. I won't wave my manbag at either of you as I don't care who's fault it is, only that you come up with a solution.
