External monitor crashes when plugged into Macbook pro 2017

When i connect my macbook pro 2017 to a 19” monitor, the monitor crashes, it seems to work with only certain screen resolutions but they don’t fit the screen correctly. The monitor specifications are:

19" Class / 720p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV - 1440 x 900 pixel resolution

MacBook Air 13″, OS X 10.11

Hey there Juan,

We don't understand what you meant when you said your monitor 'crashes', but we do understand it works with specific settings when connected to your Mac.

Since this sounds like a compatibility issue, you may need to contact your monitor's manufacturer to look into this, but we'd like to confirm a few things with you:

  1. Have you already tried the steps listed in the article above your post? Here's the link again just in case: If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry when connected to your Mac
  2. We see you have a MacBook Pro 2017, but as we don't know the exact model you have, we wanted to provide a way to check if it's compatible with macOS Monterey, which is the latest macOS available: macOS Monterey is compatible with these computers If it is a compatible model, we recommend making sure it's up to date. The latest version is macOS 12.5. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. This link will show how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.
  3. If you already tried all of the steps above, have you tried a restart of your Mac? Check out the section 'Restart' here: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

Cheers!

Thanks for getting back with us about this, juancvstillo1.

Does your display appear normal and correct when you are not using an external monitor? Have you tried a lower resolution? And lastly, have you tested a different external monitor (or tried that monitor on another computer)?

Let us know and we can go from there. Thanks and take care.

My computer is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports), its running MacOS Monterey v.12.5, I've attached a picture of the issue when I set the resolution to default for the screen, it can run at 720p and lower but as I mentioned it cuts the edges of the screen, I've tried reseting the nvram and using a different hdmi cable but the problem persists, if there's a way to adjust the screen correctly so It doesn't crop the edges but keeping a low resolution might work.

Hello Gena, hope all is well!

Yes, the monitor does work properly when connected to another computer while using the default resolution.

Yes, I'm able to use the monitor with 720p, but the resolution looks bad and it crops both sides of the screen, that's the main issue.

Also yes, I plugged the MacBook to my tv and it works just fine.

Thanks for all the help.
