SONY Digital Photo Frame

I have a Sony Digital Photo Frame, model DPF-D1010. For some reason many of the photos I load on a memory card will not display on the screen. - a question mark shows in their place. I have tried re-formatting from TIFF to JPEG with no avail. Sony says either format should work. Any suggestions as to how to work around this problem?

I found that when making changes to picture files using Photoshop, it is necessary to save the files as JPEG Baseline Standard, rather than Baseline Optimized or Progressive or as TIFF. When saved as Baseline Standard the images displayed on the Photo Frame correctly.

Here's some food for thought:

1 - since TIFF files are about 10x larger than jpegs you can get many more photos on the memory card if you converted them all to jpegs.

2 - also what what I've done is to crop my images to the same size ration as the digital frame. I then resized the images to the same pixel dimensions as the frame. This reduces the file size of the image files gives me the most number of files that I can get on the memory card with no loss of clarity on the frame.

3 - also since the memory card is formatted for PCs, probably MS-DOS (FAT), there is a limited number of files that can be added to the root directory of the card. Therefore, it's best to put the photos in a folder and add the folder to the card. It will sound only as one item in the root director and that way you can fill it up to it's maximum capacity if need be.

If you put the thumb drive in a PC you will see a bunch of files that begin with ".". These files contains things like the icon and where the file should be on the screen. Rather than just ignoring them, which is what it should do, it raises the error. You need to get rid of these with "dot_clean":
