IPhone 12 mini going haywire and overheating

Suddenly my iPhone 12 mini has been acting like it has a mind of its own. Screen taps are happening without my touching the screen and when I do it takes several taps to get a response, all the while other taps I don’t make are happening. The device is also getting very hot with just Safari running and one tab open (it took about two minutes to get it down to one tab). All this after a reboot.

What is going on and how to I fix this? I’m about to reach for a hammer.
