SONY Venice RAW
Why isn't RAW footage filmed on SONY Venice supported by FCPX? And is there a way to have it supported?

The "Venice workflow benefits" brochure on Sony's site says, "X-OCN is supported by leading non-linear editing software tools such as Adobe Premiere CC, Apple Final Cut Pro X via Calibrated{Q} Sony RAW Decode plug-in, Avid Media Composer via nablet Sony RAW AMA plug-in, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, Colorfront OSD and FilmLight Baselight, to name a few."
As far as I can tell, the Calibrated{Q} Sony RAW decode plugin is in beta and only supports Intel, but the docs look quite old.

Are you looking for native support within FCP or a workflow to transfer the footage to an edit friendly format?
If the latter, I believe the current solution offered by Sony is Catalyst Prepare, which has a free trial offer:
https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/catalystprepare
Haven't used it for a while, the webpage shows batch transcoding as a feature.
I see they also switched to a subscription for the software.
They list as supported formats:
"Catalyst Prepare natively supports Sony formats such as Sony RAW, X-OCN, XAVC Long, XAVC Intra, XAVC HS, XAVC S, XDCAM 422, XDCAM EX, DNxHD, ProRes (read only on Windows; read/export on macOS), HDCAM SR (SStP), NXCAM, AVCHD, AVC H.264/MPEG-4, HDV and DV, and OpenEXR image sequences are also supported."

Use feedback to make a feature request. Has Sony released a playback workflow as RED has?
SONY suggested CalibratedQ-Sony RAW Decode, but it looks to be an antiquated process (last support was OS X 10.3) that requires a license.
Yes, exactly. Calibrated{Q} is old and requires a license - and I'm not 100% sure it would work as intended on newer systems.
Thanks MtD, I'm really looking for native support. I've reached out to FCPX Feedback to see if support is possible
