Why no RAW support for Sony A7IV
I've had a Sony A7IV since launch and figured RAW support would be coming soon but it's been 8 months and still nothing.

I don't have an answer for you but I acknowledge the question is a good one!
this is NOT a Sony question but a FCPX / QT / iMovie question and thank God Apple seems to work reasonably hard to keep up with all the Cameras out there? a MONUMENTAL job when you think about it?
I had a similar issue with BMDraw ... in my case I had to drop $70 for a plugin [that I had to run] in order to convert those files, to Apple ProRes... and that meant time and disc space used up before I could edit the files. Since everything in life appears to be about Money [LOL] I assume the lack of support for the BMDr files is a licensing issue? had I not been lazy? I could have used DaVinci Resolve [which cost me nothing] and could have done the same thing?? I just don't know DR [from BMD] well enough and I didn't have the time to invest to learn, so...
I am a proud owner of the Sony A7S III and I have not tired to capture RAW... but I CAN tell you that QT does seem to NOT want to play some of the file formats i DO use from that camera.. and only FCPX will play "said" files [thank god LOL] but it is a pain to not be able to review files directly on the SD card...[from the finder]
dailabrain, brings up a good point.. Your question is referring to "Stills" or "Video"? because if you are asking about. video? I have had issues with Black Magic Designs RAW [video format] as an example.

That's incorrect…
"Raw footage is the crude output of a video or still camera recording"
Huh? Sorry you lost me, call me stupid [if that makes you feel better?] but doesn’t your link says exactly what I’m saying?
Do we agree there are BOTH, RAW ‘video files and RAW still images? And that they are [conceptually] the same thing? [while I’ll admit that RAW video is still a “codec” in the purest sense? When compared to “RAW stills” [which is typically, data right off the sensor?] [Which is probably not purely true, in the case of RAW video files?] And that a still pic may be closer to actually being “raw” they still have “RAW video formats! Even Apple has their own version! “Apple ProRes RAW”
the original question was one of file support… and as an example; try using video files shot in “Black Magic RAW” or “Red” RAW? These formats are not supported natively” ["Red” might be?] But there are at least a couple that are not.
what I’ll give you credit for is that you assumed the question was one about RAW “Stills” I admit that didn’t even occur to me! I’m guilty of only thinking about video… LOL. And I would LOVE to see Apple support more RAW video formats natively
This is a users forum. No one here has any info on when or if the Sony A7IV will be supported.

FWIW, Monterey does support RAW files from the Sony a7S III.
That doesn't surprise me, and thank you for the heads up!
I probably won't ever? find a need for RAW capture? since the Codec's seem to get it done more conveniently ?
RAW applies to still photos, codecs to video.
Sorry we have a LOT of "RAW" formats in Video as well. look it up
but Yes this person may be asking from a still perspective and NOT a video perspective? I'm guilty of always thinking video and almost never stills LOL
I'm asking about stills support. the A7IV doesn't shoot raw video. The camera has been out a long time, they came out with support for the A7III within a few months of release.
FWIW, Apple ProRes RAW, Black Magic RAW and Redcode RAW, are all codecs.
I'm out.
