Apple Pencil Compatibility

I just purchased a new IPad Air 5th generation, and it appears that my Apple Pencil 1st generation will not pair/work. I assume this means I need to purchase a new generation pencil, or will this eventually pair? Thank you!

I didn't know it charges magnetically while resting on the side of IPAD. I got a cover, which has a place to put the pencil and accessories. Glad you like the newer generation one. I don't always use it, but maybe I will more this time. When I first got the first generation one, they didn't have any place to put it, then when I upgraded iPads over the years and covers, they had a loop to put pencil, but that wasn't so great. LOL. I did read today that the newer generation is a better pencil than the 1st one. Ordered this morning and I will get it this afternoon! Love Amazon Prime! LOL. Thanks again!

Good for you and enjoy it! And yes, same day Amazon Prime delivery is pretty sweet! Do make sure to keep the pencil planted on the side of your iPad when not in use. That way it stays fully charged and will last a long time. My current iPad is the newest iPad Pro 11 M1, but the pencil is from my 2018 iPad Pro 11 and it's still working perfectly nearly 4 years later.
