The look of Apple Maps changed. How to get back to the original version?

The look of Apple Maps changed today. I’ve lost the generic street view (with a clean white or soft tan background) which is easy on the eyes. It seems that I can only choose from driving, explore, satellite, or transit and the background now is green, gray, and blue. Lots of labels and utterly confusing to focus on. It’s just awful. I really don’t want to resort to google maps but I may have to. I have restarted my phone and still no fix. Help!

Hi Kiki1540,

Let's try a few other steps to investigate this. While you are looking at a city, you may have the option to use street view. You mentioned you weren't able to access street view and the directions below should help fix this:

  1. "In select cities, tap the Look Around button near the bottom of a map.
  2. To change the view, do any of the following:
    • Pan: Drag a finger left or right.
    • Move forward: Tap the scene.
    • Zoom in or out: Pinch open or closed.
    • Switch to or from full-screen view: Tap the Enter Full Screen Mode button or the Exit Full Screen Mode button.
    • View another point of interest: Switch from full-screen view, then tap elsewhere on the map.
    • Hide labels in full-screen view: Tap the place card at the bottom of the screen, then tap the Hide Labels button.

3. When finished, tap Done."

This information is from Look around streets in Maps on iPhone.

Let us know if this is what you were referring to.

Cheers.
