Mac studio Bluetooth audio is choppy

Wanted to throw this out there. I have read several posts about Bluetooth audio not playing smoothly and several remedies like turning off airplay, restart and others that didn’t work for me. I have a Mac Studio Ultra and was using my Magic Mouse circa 2015. Finally noticed that when moving the mouse, the audio became choppy when streaming to my echo dot 4th gen. Stop moving the mouse, all good again. So I swapped my mouse with my Magic Mouse circa 2020, same problem. Used my trusty old Microsoft mouse with stupid Bluetooth dongle, and works perfectly.

So in a nutshell, a $4,000 Mac doesn’t play well with Apple’s $80 mouse. A $10 throw down mouse works, and doesn’t interfere with the audio. People have been complaining about your choppy Bluetooth audio for awhile and still no fix. Does anyone have a better fix for this? Everything is updated.

My iMac does not have this problem and they are in the same room.

Hi j_carter4,

Thanks for posting in Apple Communities.

With this issue occurring only with Bluetooth mice, have you had a chance to check for local wireless interference? This article explains more about that:

Create a test user account and check for the same behavior. This will help to isolate the issue further and determine our next steps:

Hi j_carter4,

Were you able to test this issue in a new user account on the Mac? Also, do you have another speaker or Bluetooth audio device to test the issue with? We ask because this will help determine the device causing the issue.

If this issue is occurring with multiple Bluetooth devices, we would encourage you to contact Apple Support to investigate further:

I now have this issue with my Microsoft mouse and it appears on my iMac as well. I tried with my network off and same result. I tried again using a Beats Pill gen 2 and works fine. So at the end of the day, as I already knew when I bought it, echo dots are not very good speakers, and now I know their bluetooth interferes with everything I don't want it to.

At the end of the day, I really just wanted to get this out there for anyone else who was having a similar problem just to see that it could be something as simple as your mouse and your speaker hating each other. If Apple wants to send me a Home Pod Mini to solve my issue, PM me for my address.

I have taken a look at other sources interference which was my main reason I was looking around in my den when I put two and two together that it was my Magic Mouse. It seems highly impossible that it is something else doing this when using a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, everything is ok. I also have an apple trackpad and all is good using it. This problem only appears on my Studio, streaming audio to my echo dot and using any Magic Mouse. The iMac sitting on the desk next to the studio using same configuration to test this and all works just fine. This is some sort of problem with the studio and Magic Mouse (which I have used two different ones, a 2015 and 2020 model mouse).
