OneDrive for MacOS [Big Sur] - problems uploading files following June & July 2022 OneDrive updates

Hi Folks,

I've been running OneDrive 22.131.0619.0001 on MacOs Big Sur 11.6.7 (20G630) on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015).

I've been having trouble uploading files to the OneDrive server from my Mac. The app sticks at "preparing to upload" for hours at a time. After 10-20 hours, the queue eventually clears.

This is not an issue of a large number of files or large files. Even with a few small files, they stick in the queue for hours on end.

I have followed the "Reset OneDrive" procedure and effectively re-installed OneDrive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled OneDrive. The problem remains.

This is new behaviour for me in the past month or so. The app was working well until recently.

I haven't installed any other new software. I haven't changed any network configuration. The hardware is still the same. I don't have any firewall or interfering anti-virus.

I raised the issue with Microsoft support last week. The suggestions from the agent were not very insightful. He promised to escalate the matter but I haven't heard back and he's stopped replying to my emails.

I contacted another Microsoft agent today. Eventually, he admitted to me that they “have had quite a handful of Mac users with the issue”. He wouldn’t or couldn’t give me any more information like how many other users are affected. He asked which version of MacOS I am using and would only say that it is "an issue of compatibility with OneDrive” and "some OS are more suitable and compatible than others”.

Has anyone else had this problem and been able to resolve it?

I was going to suggest asking in a MS forum, only to find this topic which will seem familiar 😆

There are plenty of other complaints as you wrote, but the most helpful answer involves updating OneDrive to its latest version or using OneDrive Files On-Demand for Mac — things you also already know.

Bottom line, which you're not going to like: dump Microsoft. They have been reinventing the wheel for decades now. Apple shows us how to do it, but MS always has a better idea. When (if) they eventually iron out the bugs, they obsolete that product then make you pay for the privilege of even more abuse. How that business model continues to thrive defies all logic.

Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support. This isn't an Apple problem.

Link to website. The thread with thousands of views might be relevant, but there are many conflicting reports.

Thanks John.

Obviously I know this isn't an Apple problem 😀 but I'm just trying to see who else out there might be impacted and if they've found a solution.

Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure are a lot of people who use OneDrive on their Macs. To be honest, I've been using it for over 5 years on both my Macs and it integrates nicely with my Android (🤪!) phones. This is the first serious problem I've had.

None of these large tech companies has the perfect product or perfect approach to their customers so a bit of healthy cooperation / competition is good. To be fair to Microsoft, a couple of months ago, Apple released an upgrade to Big Sur (11.6.6) which messed up file attachments in MacOS Mail and Outlook. Microsoft were much quicker than Apple in announcing there was a problem. Admittedly, I got much much better support from Apple support folk in that case than I am currently getting from Microsoft.

Tough to say, as the complaints don't appear to have a common thread. There are too many variables to account for.

I tell everyone considering Macs they have to commit to going "all in". Using a Mac with one foot in the MS camp and the other in the Goolag is misery.

That's one thing Apple will never do 😆 Don't get me started with Apple Maps. I agree Apple could use some competition too. Microsoft isn't it.
