Monterey upgrade-- No Apple Mail

I upgraded from Big Sur (original OS on my Macbook Air) to Monterey. Apple Mail no longer functions, for either of my two mail accounts (gmail and Exchange). I also have Outlook installed, and it works perfectly, for both accounts. Closing and restarting Mail does nothing.......
