Apple Intelligence is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac!
I want to download the latest version of Monterey but don't wish to use my iMac because it will involve it being left on too long (slow internet).
So I would like to use my 2012 Mac mini but it won't download from the App Store.
Is there anywhere else I could download it using an incompatible computer?

Not safely. You should never download Apple software from third-party sites. You may end up getting more than you bargained for...
At any rate, it's not possible to download specific macOS versions officially from anywhere except the Mac App Store.
Successfully upgraded to macOS 12.5 but have one last question.
How do I update this info on my profile?
I have been into my profile's preferences but nowhere can I see a way to change my computer name or macOS.
What are you seeing in your version? You don't see newer versions under Download macOS in the sidebar?

I seem to recollect mention on this FCP X forum of somewhere on the Apple website that permitted the download of "old" etc. operating systems.

MDS is widely used for enterprise installations. It's a free app for single users.
Thanks Tom. I am not sure how MDS could help but in any case I don't think it would work for me because my old mini is limited to Catalina and MDS needs Big Sur.

Thanks Bubba. I was sure that in the olden days we could alter it in the profile preferences. I must have been mistaken.
You're welcome- and you could, actually, a few years ago. I think they changed it around the end of 2018 to automatically pull the device info from your Apple ID.
