iPad stopped working

I had been charging my ipad and then when I took it off of charge with 56% battery life, the screen went blank.

If I plug it in, the lock screen comes up and says slide to open. It will not slide up to open and then black in about 30 seconds.

If I take it off charge the same thing happens. The only time I can see my screen is in the first 30-45 seconds of being on/off charge.

It will not allow me to do a "force reset" just goes black.

The behaviour that you describe is symptomatic of a defective battery - requiring service.

You would be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad, Power Adapter and cable(s):
