How to use FCPx Compressor to export Audio/Video to bring into DVD Studio Pro Blu-Ray Workflow

I recall DVD Studio Pro can burn a "Blu Ray" BD 1920x1080 movie with custom menus -- I have BD writer and Toast BD Plugin -- I don't want to use Toast to do my menus

That I just need to use Compressor to output correct file formats: H264 or MPEG2 (?) and Audio format of choice - then bring them into DVD SP and use the Burn button to write the BD (after building my menus)

I know I can do a BD movie using a flavor of Compressor's "Create Blu-Ray" and FCPx's Share> Blu-Ray but I want to control the menu layouts

FIRST: IS THIS POSSIBLE (to bring 1920x1080 H264 or MPEG2) into DVD Studio Pro (last version that shipped with FCP7) - I don't want to use AVCHC format as my final disk could be over 25GB

OR AM I STUCK USING APPLE's SHARE> BluRay

or Compressor's "Create Blu-Ray" and their basic menu templates?

I have a working Final Cut Studio OS-X system with FCP7 and DVD Studio Pro

also, I have

macOS 10.14x and 11.6x systems with respective versions of FCPx and Compressor

The above tools are only what I have available (no PC options)

not too surprised no replies given how many times this has been covered in every corner of the internet

trouble with all that key word saturation is all the information I found didn't address my question:

  • is using DVD Studio Pro possible to use DVDSP's custom menu interfaces to burn a BluRay BD movie disc -- does it work and how
  • (years ago I recall reading I only needed to use Compressor to output the correct audio and video file formats, then import them into DVDSP and build my canvases and menus in the usual way, then write the BD .img to the hard drive and burn that in toast BD HD plugin -- though I only did AVCHC format back them with no BlueRay writer)

all the blogs and YouTubes I slugged through were centered on doing it on a Mac macOS outside of DVD Studio Pro using Apple's Compressor and Final Cut Pro X where their menu options are crude at best...

but so far -- Share Blu-Ray to hard disk (.img format) -- then burn .img to BD from that looks like my only option under macOS

I was surprised to find I do not need Toast, HD plugin, to do the burn -- simply Finder> Right+Click (on the .img)> Burn Disk Image to Disk did the trick

I am not too keen on working with ONE 2-plus-hour 1920x1080 ProRes422 file to Share to Blue Ray (sic)... much prefer to break them up in smaller pieces and build custom menus around that...

In short:

DVDSPro is for DVD authoring not for Blu ray.

FCPro current version and Compressor can burn BD even though you will have very limited customisation.

It sounds as you have already found this out.

Regards the dodgy playback issue, you may want to lower the data rate as too high will cause issues on differing equipment.

ok, I would like to continue my Apple Blu-Ray as FEEDBACK - my input only as long as I am talking to myself - to stop a confusing thread from developing

as a test on macOS 11.6.8, using a 1920x1080 .jpg custom Canvas -- I burned a 7 minute ProRes422 .mov 1920x1080 in Final Cut Pro X 10.6.4 using Share> Hard Drive .img saved to my desktop (Compressor 4.6.2 is installed)

Then I burned the Disk Image using Finder> Burn to my Blu-Ray Writer using fresh Verbatim BD-R 25GB disk

Finder also successfully verified its burn

PROBLEMS WITH THE BDR:

Latest updates Sony PlayStation 3 WOULD NOT PLAY THE BD -- the PS3 recognized the BD, but selecting it to play only blacked out the TV screen and returned to the menu about 20 seconds later -- I moved the BD over to an LG 4K player.

The LG 4K player recognized and played the movie but was painful -- it would not Pause the movie, or return to the main canvas, for starters...

VERY DISAPPOINTED

I guess I will have to keep dinking around and see if I can get this Apple Blu-Ray workflow working (maybe I will have better luck moving the Share>Bluray back to Mojave... but for now it is unusable to release... Verbatim BDR is not junk IMO, I have used them many times in the past
