Finder Gallery View, cannot zoom in to photos

Recently my finder Gallery view option for photos has changed, there is now a white border around photos where there wasn't before, and photos are much smaller than before in gallery view option. I also was previously able to zoom into and look at the details of a photos in gallery view in a folder and I no longer can.

Hoping for a solution to this problem, I don't want to have to open up each individual image in Preview in order to zoom in and look at details.
