Attempting to clear storage space. iPhone storage showing significantly less GB usage for photos and messages than iCloud storage.

My iCloud storage is full. So I have deleted hundreds of photos and messages, including attachments in messages. However, my iCloud storage amount hasn't budged. My iCloud storage is only set to save photos, message, and iCloud Drive (which is basically empty). iCloud storage shows photos 30 GB but there is only 16.59 GB on my phone. Messages on iCloud shows 18.6 GB but iPhone storage it's only 4.15 GB. Why is this? I don't want to pay for more iCloud storage.

Please see the pic below. This is how normally it should look like. What is causing iPhone storage to swell up is unclear to me.





However, please check the following.

  1. Do you have optimised iPhone storage enabled?
  2. Get started with iCloud Photos:
    1. Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
    2. Turn on iCloud Photos.
    3. Select Optimize iPhone Storage to save space on your device.
  3. Have you restarted the device? Please do.
  4. Are you checking the iCloud Storage from your device? If you are checking on a web browser please check if your correctly cheking your Apple ID.
  5. Do you have multiple devices? Are you looking at the iCloud storage for the correct device?
