Which keyboard/cover should I buy for the iPad Pro 9.7 A1673 and How do I identify which generation it is, as this seems to be mentioned in most adverts I’m seeing on Amazon, etc.

The model that you identify is a first generation iPad Pro 9.7” WiFi Only. This is a very old model of iPad Pro - released in March 2016. When compared with more recent models - its internal hardware performance and capabilities are more limited. Individual iPad models typically remain in-support and receive system software updates for five to seven years; as such, this model is perhaps in its twilight period of support.
If considering potential purchase, you might be well advised to choose a much more recent model - as in these will offer substantial gains in performance and longevity of support.
