codes sent to iPhone don't appear in notifications on my Mac

I recently had my MacBookPro into Apple's shop where they reinstalled the software.

Now when I get a two factor notification to my iPhone, the code doesn't appear across my screen on the Mac.

What setting am I missing?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.5

It won't hurt to go through this checklist to make sure notifications sent to your iPhone are also appearing on your Mac when they are sent as a text message (you don't need to be using 2FA to get those verification codes that apparently are going to your iPhone but not to your Mac -- since they come through as if they are text messages, this checklist might help):

iMessage checklist

iPhone and Mac both logged in to same Apple ID. Try logging off and logging on if necessary.

iPhone Settings => Messages shows iMessage as "on" (sometimes toggling this off and then on fixes some things)

iPhone Settings => Messages shows Send & Receive showing both phone number and email (Apple ID)

iPhone Settings => Messages shows Text Message Forwarding and your Mac is listed and shown as "on" there.

iPhone Settings => Messages shows Send as SMS "on" and MMS Messaging and Group Messaging both "on"

On the Mac: Messages => Preferences shows same and correct Apple ID and "You can be reached for messages at" indicates both phone number and Apple ID (email), and "start new conversations from" indicates the phone number.

* Don't see the Text Message Forwarding setting on your iPhone? Go to Settings > Messages, turn off iMessage, turn it back on, tap Send & Receive, tap Use Your Apple ID for iMessage, then sign in with the same Apple ID used on your other devices.

Another thing to try if everything above is correct but the Mac is not getting the verification codes/messages: open Messages on the Mac, in Messages go to Preferences => iMessages and select Sign Out, then close Messages, open it again, and sign in again using the same Apple ID that is being used on the iPhone.

All of the responses have been dealing with my phone. No changes have been made to my phone. No volunteer has addressed settings which have to be reset on my MacBook. Way too much “advice”has been related to tfa. It’s not relevant as I never had it set up before so it shouldn’t matter now for the issue.

As I said. I AM logged in to iCloud so it IS enabled. I just don’t store in the cloud for messages, pictures, or music. I backup on my MacBook and my iPhone. The cloud for me is a convenience for interaction in the simplest of ways on my devices. I AM logged in into Apple with the only ID I have.

if I am frustrated, this is why. The problem is a communication issue between phone and computer. Something that changed on the MacBook when I reopened and logged into it. As the phone has not changed, the setting needs to be addressed in the MacBook. As tfa was never there, I don’t need to worry about it now. I wish someone had bothered to address what might have changed in the MacBook.

I will talk to Apple.

Thank you. That's helpful. Steven mentioned I should look into the imessages app to find Text forwarding. I have that set up. Perhaps I just need to receive a text code from a health network for example (re: UHC ) to see if the problem has been resolved. But ....my husband just sent an iMessage from his MacBook to someone. It came through in my messages On My Phone. It's isn't in my messages on my MacBook. So it's like the codes....they come through to my phone but not my MacBook (messages app)

Q - " But ....my husband just sent an iMessage from his MacBook to someone. It came through in my messages On My Phone. It's isn't in my messages on my MacBook."

A - The message sent by your husband from his computer was sent to whom ? Why would it appear on your IPhone if it was not sent to you ?

A- This looks really off to me

A - When I send a Text or iMessage from any of my Apple Computers ( 3 computers ) - it will show on my iPhone but none of them appear on my wife's Apple Computer or iPhones

Well there is my scenario and just encountered while Logging into my Government Income Tax Site

The setup is a Follows

Apple 2FA enabled on my Apple Account.

iPhone On and at hand

Apple Computer is same condition - On.

Log into Canadian Income Tax Site with the User ID and Password for that specific Site.

They required a Trusted Telephone Number I registered with them

Text Message will be sent to Trusted iPhone Number.

Receive Text Message on Both iPhone in Messages and Same Text Message in Messages of Computer

Now, refer to below screen shot from the Computer and arrive at your own conclusions.

I’m not sure what you are trying to say here. This is exactly what I don’t get. But again we’re not talking about my phone but my MacBook. Tfa is on on my Mac btw. And has been apparently. So rule out tfa once again.

I spent some time with Apple today. Some of the problems are a result of two different names for my MacBook which exist on it. It’s an identity conflict. The wrong identity (my old MacBook returned to Apple) was the ACTIVE one for texts from android users. But it wasn’t the identity selected to receive. So nothing could come through. Once we switched the identities with toggle switches android texts came through fine. Notifications still don’t yet. Apple texts have notifications and have always come through fine. There was also an issue with “sounds” which can mess up other things like this apparently. Sounds is resolved. But renaming is now at the forefront. Long story. Still working with Apple.

I have to wait now for a security text to arrive from someone to see if the MacBook will receive it as it should. As all of these security codes are coming from pc or “android “ users it makes sense. But the story continues…Wednesday when my Apple rep and I talk again.

Thx for still pondering the problem.
