What cable/cord adapter can I use? It seems I'll need a female end to plug the old USB(s) into what should lead to a male end for the thunderbolt/USB-C ? ports on the computer. Just need one adapter and don't want to spend a lot of money. It's only for documents. Yet my search on Apple et al doesn't seem to have that female to male adapter unless I've missed it. Please advise. Many thanks!

The Apple adapter that tjk mentioned will work just fine. Do an Amazon search for "usba to usbc adapter". There are many different brands to choose from. Many are more reasonably priced and many do not have a cord between the USB-A and USB-C plugs (which you may not want). Specifically, you'd want female USB-A to male USB-C as other gender types are listed when searching.

Yes. I had been searching Amazon, but now, thanks to you, I'll filter it by usba to usbc adapter and see what happens. You're right about the cord. I think the most direct route is best, eg. one side female usba and other side male usbc. Unfortunately sometimes Amazon searches are clunky, filled with items that don't fit what I asked for and seeing the count of 1000 items or more is daunting, especially going through photos that don't clearly show the two ends. Some even mention their compatibility with 2022 models which is possible given the new M2 just came out.

Thanks very much for you reply.
