French layout keyboard cheatsheet

Hello, is there a drawing of keyboard characters in French for each dead keys combinations (cmd, shift, ctrl and all variations).

As an alternative, how can I capture the screenshot properly from the virtual keyboard display? It seems the screenshot button is ineffective when a dead key is pressed.

Following up on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254700027, I have another annoyance as a new Mac user that maybe someone can help me with. I use a German keyboard with German keyboard layout. But, as many people do, I often need to write text in English. So I naively added English as an "input language" in the system settings. Original reason: Searching for Emojis. See this screenshot with the input language set to German: This is an unexpected result for me, I'd have to type "Herz" to find the correct emojis which honestly, nobody would ever do, would they? I can see the reasoning behind this though, e.g. for less common words. Still, emojis have standardized names in Unicode and conventionally agreed upon short-code names, which are in English. Setting the input language to English yields better results: But now my keyboard layout is broken! That's bad. Looks like "input methods" restricts languages to their usual keyboard layouts; it is not possible to add "English" as an input method while keeping the German keyboard layout: (QWERTZ is not selectable on the right side anymore when selecting English on the left) Again, I can see the reasoning behind it, to bring simplicity. But I'd like to control input language and keyboard layout independently of each other. It is not an unusual scenario to type English text on a German keyboard. Seems like spell checking adapts automatically depending on the app I use. So I'm not really sure what the "input method" is, does it refer to input language or keyboard layout? Hard coupling the two things is not what I want. If I am not overlooking something important, maybe I'll just send this thread as feedback to Apple as well. Having lots of spare time due to an injury right now. Thanks in advance for everyone reading and trying to understand my problem.

French Quotation Marks keyboard shortcut for » , option shift \ for « , option \ In 2008 someone asked how to create French quotation marks on a Mac keyboard, which is what I was searching for this morning. The answer given did not work for me (or the person from 2008), but it got me experimenting and I found the correct combination.

Handwriting - Traditional Chinese Virtual Trackpad does not appear after upgrading to Ventura Hello. I use Handwriting - Traditional as muy main method of inputting Traditional Chinese characters on a Mac. Before upgrading to Ventura (from Montery), switching to Handwriting - Traditional input source will display a virtual trackpad and I can see on screen my strokes and the suggested characters. After upgrading to Ventura, switching to Handwriting - Traditional input source either from the input menu in the status bar or the shortcut (Option + Shift + Space) will not cause the virtual trackpad to display on screen. While I do appreciate that the suggested characters now appear on the touch bar, I do not appreciate that the option to display the virtual trackpad on screen is unavailable. Is this by design, or is it a bug?

For this you can use the Screenshot App in Applications/Utilities. It offers more flexible ways to take screen shots.

(I don't know of any graphics of all levels of the French keyboard available online)

Apple also provides a layout (in system preferences > keyboard > input sources) called "French PC" if that is easier.

Hello. Thanks for this tip. I think it is a matter of getting used to. I only regret there aren't more markings on apple keyboards :-)

Sure it is better for reselling a Mac to any other owner worldwide.

Thanks, I managed to take screenshots. I have a bit of a hard time to find some characters on the apple keyboard as it is different from PC keyboards.
