It's been three years since somebody last asked this question so here goes:
I teach online for four different colleges, and have over a half a dozen email accounts on my MacBook: is there really no way to automatically put these onto my iPad?
I can add them manually if I have to, but this really seems wonky, and slow, and technologically ridiculous.

You will still need to add the desired email accounts on your iPad Air, as it can't sync or automatically be added from a MacBook: Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
