“On my iPhone” notes have disappeared

All my notes from my “On My iPhone” folder have suddenly disappeared. The “recently deleted” folder also isn’t showing in the folder list. Have tried every solution I could find and even upgraded from iOS 15.5 to 15.6 - nothing has worked. Please help?

Hi Stevi_S

Thank you for responding. I have updated to 15.6.1 but unfortunately my notes have not returned. They are not searchable and are not in my recently deleted folder.

To restate the problem: All notes from my “on my iPhone” folder disappeared without a trace.

I really hope there’s something else I can try? Or an explanation as to what could have gone wrong?

Hi Raicya,

It's not that I can't find the app. My Notes app is where i usually keep it on my home screen. It is when I open the app and look in my "On My iPhone" folder, that all the notes have disappeared.

I didn't realise there was a threat of this happening and am really hoping for an explanation from Apple. Nothing else on my phone seems affected in any way. I obviously don't back up sensitive information to the cloud and I'm sure this is the same for most users.

Hi alsimky,

We understand you're missing Notes on your iPhone. We know how important Notes can be, and we want to make sure we look at every option to recover those. Start with the steps here:

  1. Update the iOS of your device. iOS 15.6.1 is now available. See how to update here: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
  2. Try the rest if these steps once more: If you're missing notes on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Thanks.

No, I do not mean the Files app. I am talking about Apple's Notes app.

The home page of the Notes app is titled 'Folders'. Here you can see folders linked to iCloud and various email addresses, if you choose to use those to sync and store apps. At the bottom of the folders list is one called 'On My iPhone'. Subfolders and notes stored under this menu are not backed up to any cloud, as far as I'm aware.

It is all of these that suddenly disappeared.

Thanks for your feed back.

Do you mean in Files? If so, that could mean, (1) you have not deleted anything or (2) Recently deleted items can be permanently removed by your storage provider.

When you open Notes, are all Notes still there?
