Just got a brand new Mac book pro and was doing the migration assistant like I’ve done half a dozen times before. I’ve been getting the error that there is not enough hard drive space. Both have 1TB HDs. We use Microsoft One Drive. I unlinked my account but that didn’t fix it. Then I tried to do the migration using my Time Machine, but got the same result.
any ideas?

Verify the Free Storage Space:
Looking in Disk Utility, how much free storage space do you see that you have? Is it well more than enough to take in all of the data. Note that MS One Drive is cloud storage, so it plays no role on internal storage. If not enough free space, then you may need to export large files (i.e. Virtual Machines, and downloaded items in your iTunes Library).
My guess OneDrive is the culprit regardless of what you may have done. I had similar problems with OneDrive and finally ditched it in favor of iCloud Drive even on the one Windows box we have but never use. OneDrive was never anything but a royal pain all around..
I have 995GB available in the new Mac and I am trying to migrate 550GB from my current Mac.
when doing the Migration assistant, it reads that my current library is 1.17 TB which is obviously inaccurate because the HD is 1TB.
so it might be seeing my “cloud” files and assuming they are real files. But I unlinked from OneDrive so it couldn’t see them. My OneDrive files are just on the cloud and I download as I need them and then they automatically go back to the cloud.
Yeah, can't dump OneDrive, company standard. I haven't had many problems except this migration.
I'd say this migration is a problem ...a significant one.
