Stereo Audio playback with iOS 15.5

Hi all,

I’m having a problem with audio playback on a car stereo since an update to iOS 15.5.

For years this has worked seamlessly no matter which app I’ve used be it Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube etc.

Since the update no audio playback from any source seems to work, from any app source (e.g. Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube etc.)

I’ve also tested with some spare iPhone devices which are older iOS version, iOS 15.1 and 15.2 and they work perfectly.

It feels like iOS 15.5 has cut off audio playback for older stereos. Has anyone else found this?

NB: I connect my iPhone 11 to my car stereo through a USB A to lightning cable and have done for years successfully until now.

Hi Dave,

This should definitely still work for you.

Try following along with the steps here:

"Connect using USB playback

Restart your device and your car.
Make sure that your device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check the manual that came with your car to learn how to connect an Apple device.
Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is properly inserted into the port.
Update your device.
Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.
Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support."
