Mac - No Alert Sounds. No Sound Files.

I do not get any alert sounds on the Mac. I can play iTunes. But no iMessage alert, and it does not 'ding' when I change the slider.

I notice that when I got to Library/Audio/Sounds/Alerts that there are not any files there. That is also true under my user.

Is lack of sound files causing the issue? If so, how can I replace those files?

Ventura 13.0 plays excessive sounds Since upgrading to Ventura, my Mac plays sounds when I send a text message and two sounds when I receive a text - both the sound I set/want ("Note") and some other background notification sound (sounds like "Breeze" but maybe slightly different). I only want the one sound that I set within the Messages settings ("Message received sound"), but it seems there's a duplicate notification sound for every action. I already turned off the "Play user interface sound effects" setting within Settings -> Sound and that seemed to fix it for a few days, but then the sounds returned. MacBook air 2022 message sound effects (help please:))) I love the MacBook Air but I have been having some trouble with trying to mute the "delivered" sound on iMessage and ALL notification sounds on mail. I have tried going into settings and turning off the notification sounds but that didn't help me with the sound effects. I have been looking through my settings and I cannot seem to find the right buttons. I leave for school soon and I do not want any sound coming from my computer, but I would like to still see my notifications. Please help!!! Thank you so much:)

adding sounds to system/library/sounds hey folks. new macbook 14" running monterey 12.4. trying to insert a handful of sounds into the system/library/sounds folder so i can choose them for alerts. unfortunately, apple has blocked the ability to do this. i have read & write permissions for the folder. still, dave's not here. c'mon, apple. it's a freaking sounds file. not nuclear warhead codes. anybody have a workaround for this? again, sounds. not anything critical to anybody but apple branding nerds. peace out!

It looks like I have somehow fixed this. I have a dual boot Mac. I dragged the sounds from Mojave to Big Sur, rebooted and now the alert sounds work.
