ipad pro unable to charge from type c to type c cable only

iOS 15.5

my ipad suddenly unable to charge. upon testing further, those cables and plugs (anker and apple) able to charge other devices such as power bank (type c) and other mobile devices (type c). Means the cables and plugs are in good condition.

further test, when I use USB to type c cable (2 cables), both are able to charge. I use back the above plugs and other plugs. All are good.

So, I am not sure if it is a charging port issue or software issue.

As described, given that charging operates largely as expected when using a USB Type-A power source - but is problematic when using a USB-C Power Adapter - this would suggest that your issue may be related to USB PD (Power Delivery).

When using a USB Type-A power source, the maximum charging rate of your iPad is limited to 12W (i.e., 2.4A @5V). By contrast, a USB PD complaint power source and your iPad should actively negotiate a mutually supported USB PD charging profile; in practice, for your iPad, this will be 18-20W (2.0A @9V or 1.5A @12V). If the USB PD handshake should fail, the Power Adapter should default to the standard USB 5V output.

Given available information, assuming that you are using a certified USB-C Power Adapter and charging/data cables, symptoms suggest that your iPad is unable to switch to USB PD charging - of itself suggesting an iPad hardware fault.

Updated to 15.6.1. Still the same.

Using type A to type C is alright and fast. I tested on type C to lightning cables on iPhones, the "response" time to charge it slower than if using type A to lightning cable.

Those who NEVER encountered such issue will NEVER understand the whole situation unless you are a technician or specialist in industry.

If you’ve ruled out an issue with the right accessories, cable(s), power adapter(s) and outlets, then the situation is certainly iPad related.

Here’s some next steps If your iPad won't charge

• Make sure that your iPad isn't too hot or too cold. Learn about keeping your iPad within acceptable operating temperatures.

• Force restart your iPad:

•For an iPad without a Home button: Press and quickly release the volume button closest to the top button. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button. Press and hold the top button until your iPad restarts.

It won't work. It is still the same. The current solution to it. I just use any USB type A to USB type C cables (it is however unavailable in apple store). I went to the apple service center, it only offers me an iPad replacement at a cost. I also went to seek 2 experienced technicians, it is not the charging port problem. It is more on apple own design issue.

My current solution is to do type A to type C cable or a converter (type C to type A).

Perhaps start by ensuring that you have updated your iPad to the most recent version of iPadOS - at time of writing, this being iPadOS 15.6.1.

In addition to essential security updates, recent updates have included specific fixes for charging issues impacting some models of iPad.
