system information password

when i get a pop-up window saying System Information needs a password to continue. I put in my apple password and it doesn't work and neither does any of my other passwords. How do I find the right password or reset it?

Howdy,

Do you mean System Preferences needs a password to continue?

System Information is an app at /System/Applications/Utilities/System Information.app that is normally accessed from the Apple menu > About This Mac, then click System Report.

You can also press and hold the Option key, then choose Apple menu > System Information.

See Get system information for your Mac

If it is System Preferences that needs your password and you don't have it, please see

If you forgot your Mac login password

If it is something else, please let us know.
