Preparing to import on endless loop

I have tried the workarounds (airplane mode off and on/creating a new album) and I still get the preparing to import garbage message. It's been two months now not working. By toggling airplane mode, I did notice that Photos renamed my iPhone (no idea why). I originally bought an iPhone so that photos would work better from my phone to my computer. Now Apple has destroyed my trust in this (and other things). I'm not going to buy more iCloud storage, so that isn't going to be the correct answer to this issue.

Have you check your network?

Check your router settings -> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

Connect the iPhone with an original Apple USB cable to the macOS.

If they are On, turn Off Hotspot & VPN.

This is all the standard methodology which I have searched for and followed to no avail for 6 weeks.

I appreciate your answer.

Last night I finally was hunting around for different things in the photo app and for whatever reason, it allowed me to transfer photos off my iPhone to my mac.

This process used to work smoothly, but no longer does. This is not the first time that the computer side has refused to start transferring photos.

Well, my husband is a software engineer and works from home. My network hasn't been screwed for 6 solid weeks and besides, I'm not doing it over the network. I am using original hardware/cable etc. I store all my photos on my computer.

I am not using the cloud. I do not use wireless sincing.

We call that a LAN network.

Check your router settings -> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

Contact your ISP, may be need a firmware update.

NO. I am syncing over the lightning cable that came with my computer. I do not store photos in the cloud and therefore I do not go over the network to sync. My wifi settings have zero impact on this. Is this some bug that I don't know about that links wifi settings to USB synchronization???
