Apple M1 MacBook Pro doesn't work with Epson Surecolor P6000 Standard printer. Worked fine with Intel based MBP Laptop

OK, so talked with Epson, Did firmware update, software (s) update for the OS X 12, made sure the laptop had the latest stuff. Also tried the Intel-M1 translator. Nothing works, Epson is baffled and suspects the OS X software-M1 chip as the problem. Anyone out there with this difficulty?

Have been using this with a USB connection. Will try Ethernet (yes, a reverse cable) between the Epson and the M1. Then will try going to the network and do an IP address connection.

This should not be necessary. My tech says it is an Apple M1 problem, not an Epson problem? Anyone have a clue what next to do? My business has stalled for 6 days now. About to toss the M1 and go back to my other Intel based Laptop. HELP!

Solution is that Epson did not know that connecting the Laptop to the printer uses a crossover ethernet cable... they only think you need a router and network. Clearly the telephone support person was not very knowledgable. $12 cable and everything work fine.

Hi,

Thank you for the report.

Yes, connecting directly can sometimes be problematic (modern computers/devices are often auto-switching, though). Generally speaking, it is better to connect via a hub/switch/router.

For the printer in question, see also https://files.support.epson.com/docid/cpd5/cpd50156.pdf (page 41):

To connect to a network hub, you need a standard RJ-45 CAT-6 network cable. To connect directly to

your computer’s network interface, you need an RJ-45 CAT-6 crossover cable.

UPDATE: have tried using Ethernet. and USB cables directly to printer from M1 MacBook Pro. This does not work. Will hook up as IP printer via Ethernet (wok) tomorrow and try. Still appears to be the Monterey OS X and the M1 not able to function correctly. Yes, have loaded and reloaded the software, firmware, et. from Epson and also from Apple. Do not think it is an Epson, but something to do with the M1 and it's ability to work with a higher end printer than a "desktop".
