If someone steals my car with an AirTag in it, will they be notified?

If someone steals my car that has a airtag in it will the thief be notified of the airtag being with them? if not right away then how long til they will be notified.

As a rule, after three days of not syncing with its owning iPhone, the AirTag will start to beep at interval and will send an "AirTag traveling with you" message to someone in range.
