Airplay

When streaming with airplay to my TV from my iPad or iPhone I can’t fast forward or replay with a remote or with the controls on the iPad or iPhone. If I stop streaming (exit airplay) and try to restart the video again it goes to the beginning and I can’t fast forward to where I was. If I’m halfway through a video and go back to it I have to watch the first half all again. Very annoying. If I just watch on iPad or iPhone with out airplay, controls are normal. Please help. Thank you.

I tried two sort-of random videos on that site, and it didn’t work for skipping around the timeline. I guess (some of) the videos aren’t optimized for seeking and streaming with regard to going beyond what was buffered. Optimizing for streaming is a way of encoding the video, and as well for the server software, which the archivists may not have applied to all videos.

The “download” video option will store locally, while playing, and in the downloaded part, you should be able to skip around somewhat. Depending on your device connection speed and free storage, you may be able to wait for the whole video to buffer locally.

Not much else you can do about it, except express your experience as feedback for the site staff. Their videos behave differently from commercial streaming services.

(controller bar on Mac; I couldn’t discern the buffer tint change on iPhone.)

World War 2 Veteran interviews from the Library of Congress site. I’ve watched 1000’s of them over the past few years with my iPad streaming to my tv without any problems. Then I started to have the problems that I mention above about a week ago. I just checked and I can stream a YouTube video to my tv without any problems, but I don’t know if that uses airplay or not. Thank you.
