Can't AirPlay with tvOS 16.

Question

Can't AirPlay with tvOS 16.

I've used AirPlay from my iPad to my AppleTV daily for years. (How else does one do The NY Times crossword but on a 55" TV?) But since it updated to tvOS 16.0 yesterday, neither my iPad (on iPadOS 15.7) nor my iPhone (on iOS 15.7) can see the AppleTV as an AirPlay target.

That is, I pull down Control Panel, click the AirPlay button, and in the possible targets list that drops down, the AppleTV no longer shows up.

I've tried restarting the AppleTV, iPad, and iPhone multiple times, and it doesn't help.

Curiously, the iPhone and iPad CAN see the AppleTV as a Remote target, and can successfully control it.

Verify that AirPlay is still turned on in Settings on Apple TV after the update. The update itself shouldn’t change that, but it might be reset to defaults if some system data failed to read correctly.

That solved it.

I think the issue is that I have my TV connected to my home network by Ethernet. Obviously, the iPad and iPhone are connected to the home wifi, and apparently the ethernet and wifi aren’t seen as the “same network.”

Go to Settings -> AirPlay and HomeKit -> Allow Access and select Everyone and see if that helps.

I should have mentioned that I turned AirPlay on and off several times on the AppleTV, with no result.
